A bunded tank is a tank inside a second tank. If the inner tank ever leaks, the outer one holds the fuel, so it doesn't reach the ground or a watercourse. Most of the oil and diesel tanks on this page are bunded, because in most cases that's what the rules expect.
At home: a new or replacement heating oil tank over 2,500 litres must be bunded. A smaller tank may need one too if it sits near a river, ditch, drain or borehole, so most installers fit bunded as standard.
Businesses: any tank over 200 litres at a business, school or other non-domestic site must be bunded, and the bund must hold at least 110% of the tank. Farm fuel has its own separate rules.
These are the rules in England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own versions.
Keep a heating oil tank at least 1.8 metres from any building that isn't fire rated. If there isn't room, a fire protected tank is the usual answer.
A new or replacement tank at home needs to meet Building Regulations. The simplest way is to use an OFTEC registered installer, who can sign the work off for you.
Heating oil: a bunded oil tank feeding your boiler. Slimline tanks fit along a wall; low tanks fit under a window.
Diesel: for vehicles and machinery you'll usually want a dispensing tank with a pump, hose and nozzle. Transportable tanks and bowsers are built to move between sites.
AdBlue: always needs its own tank and pump. Never put it in a diesel tank.

Think about how much oil you use in a year and how often you want a delivery. A bigger tank means fewer deliveries and lets you buy when the price is low. If you're replacing a tank, matching the old size is a safe start.
The outer tank (the bund) holds at least 110% of what the inner tank holds. If the inner tank fails completely, all the fuel stays inside the bund with room to spare.
For a heating oil tank at home, the installation has to meet Building Regulations. An OFTEC registered installer can sign the work off for you. If you use someone else, you'll need to notify building control.
A tank built to resist fire for a set time. It's the usual choice when the tank can't be kept 1.8 metres from a building that isn't fire rated.
Yes. Farm fuel comes under its own rules, separate from the ones for homes and businesses. Tell us how much you use and where the tank will go, and we'll help you choose.
The delivery time is shown on every tank, so you can see it before you order.
