BSP Plastic Blanking Plugs FAQs
Is BPS the same as metric?
No. BSP (British Standard Pipe) is the sizing used across the plumbing sector in the UK and refers to the thread type, not the size. For example, an 3/4" BSP threaded will not measure 3/4 of an inch.
Do I need PTFE tape on the threads?
Yes. For all male BSP threaded fittings, PTFE tape is the item that creates a watertight seal and will prevent leaks. At least 12 wraps are recommended by the manufacturer.
What’s the difference between male and female BSP?
Male BSP = external thread (screws into a fitting)
Female BSP = internal thread (fitting screws into it)
Blanking plugs are most commonly supplied with male BSP threads. If you need to a female blanking plug (often referred to as a 'cap'), just get in touch.
