Oil Tanks
Oil Tanks for Domestic & Commercial Heating Oil Storage
Our range of oil tanks is designed to meet UK safety and environmental regulations for heating oil storage. Manufactured by leading fuel storage specialists, these tanks are suitable for domestic, agricultural and commercial installations where reliable and compliant fuel storage is essential.
For added environmental protection and regulatory compliance, many customers choose a bunded oil tank for their heating oil storage.
Often referred to as home heating oil tanks, our products are available in capacities from 650 litres upwards. We supply oil tanks in both plastic and steel, along with bunded, slimline, underground and fire-protected options to suit different installation requirements and space constraints.

What does “bunded” mean?
A bunded oil tank features a “tank within a tank” design. The inner tank stores the fuel, while the outer tank (the bund) provides a secondary layer of protection designed to contain at least 110% of the inner tank’s capacity. This helps reduce the risk of oil leaks reaching the surrounding environment and is often required to meet regulatory guidelines.
Oil tank regulations
There are regulations in place that govern the safe storage of heating oil, particularly where there is a risk to buildings, drains or the environment. Choosing the correct oil tank and installation location is important to ensure compliance. You can read more in the official Government guidance on domestic oil storage, or contact our team if you need help selecting the right tank for your installation.

Oil Tank FAQs
Can I Install My Own Oil Tank?
Whilst it may not be mandatory to have an oil tank installed by a professional, there are certain requirements in order to install an oil tank yourself. You will have to notify your local authority and a site inspector will be required to inspect and authorise the installation. The costs for this vary and requirements could vary per region. Contact your local authority for advice on this.
How Often Does An Oil Tank Need Replacing?
With regular maintenance, an oil tank should have a life span of 20 years for a plastic oil tank and 30 for a steel oil tank. Replacing an oil tank is only a requirement when the existing tank is damaged, warped or beyond repair. It is best to consult the person who services and maintains your tank for advice on this.
Do I Need A Single Skin or Bunded Oil Tank?
In all cases, a risk assessment should be carried out by a suitably qualified engineer. If the installation of the tank is within certain parameters, a bunded tank will be required.
What Is A 'Twin Walled' Tank?
A 'twin walled' or 'double-skinned' tank is a tank with a double wall, for the purpose of strength and shape integrity. These 'twin-walled tanks' are not designed to the same regulations as the bunded tanks and therefore may not have the legal secondary containment of 110% of the tank capacity for the tank contents. Therefore, they should not be confused with a bunded tank.
Do I Need A Steel Or A Plastic Oil Tank?
There are advantages to both steel oil tanks and plastic oil tanks. You can read about these in more detail in the article Steel Tank vs Plastic Tanks.
