A bund is a secondary internal cavity to the tank that can capture the contents should there be a leak in the internal container. This is essential to ensure the protection of the surrounding environment from contamination. Diesel Tanks FAQs
What Are The Regulations Around Diesel Storage?
If you are storing any oil (this includes diesel, kerosene, biodiesel or petrol) in a container that can hold over 200 litres, then you must follow oil storage regulations. These vary based on where you are storing the fuel in the UK as well as what it is being used for (commercial or domestic applications). You can find the regulations relevant to you, at this government website link.
There will also be design standards that a oil container will need to adhere to, so make sure you are buying from a reputable brand. All our diesel tanks are manufactured to UK regulation.
How Should Diesel Fuel Be Stored?
Storing large quantities of diesel fuel will need a specially bunded tank. This allows for bulk storage in a safer way that complies to oil storage regulations.
How Long Can Diesel Fuel Be Stored For?
There are optimum conditions for the storage of diesel fuel in order to maintain its life which include storage of the fuel below 20 degrees and out of direct sunlight. If these conditions are met, the degradation process of the fuel can be slowed. In the right conditions, the diesel can be stored for up to a year, without the need for additives.
Do I Need A Steel Or A Plastic Diesel Tank?
There are advantages to both steel tanks and plastic tanks. You can read about these in more detail in the article Steel Tank vs Plastic Tanks.
How Often Does A Diesel Tank Need Replacing?
With regular maintenance, a diesel tank should have a life span of 20 years for a plastic diesel tank and 30 for a steel tank. Replacing a tank is only a requirement when the existing tank is damaged, warped or beyond repair. It is best to consult the person who services and maintains your equipment for advice on this.
How Do You Store Red Diesel?
In order to comply with oil storage regulations in the UK, large quantities of red diesel need to be stored in a bunded diesel tank. The bunded diesel tank range are available in both plastic and steel options, with or without dispensing equipment and in varying quantities up to 100,000 Litres.
