Diesel Tanks FAQs

If you are storing any oil (this includes diesel, kerosene, biodiesel or petrol) in a container that can hold over 200 litres, then you must follow oil storage regulations. These vary based on where you are storing the fuel in the UK as well as what it is being used for (commercial or domestic applications). You can find the regulations relevant to you, at this government website link.

There will also be design standards that a oil container will need to adhere to, so make sure you are buying from a reputable brand. All our diesel tanks are manufactured to UK regulation.

Storing large quantities of diesel fuel will need a specially bunded tank. This allows for bulk storage in a safer way that complies to oil storage regulations.

There are optimum conditions for the storage of diesel fuel in order to maintain its life which include storage of the fuel below 20 degrees and out of direct sunlight. If these conditions are met, the degradation process of the fuel can be slowed. In the right conditions, the diesel can be stored for up to a year, without the need for additives.

There are advantages to both steel tanks and plastic tanks. You can read about these in more detail in the article Steel Tank vs Plastic Tanks.

With regular maintenance, a diesel tank should have a life span of 20 years for a plastic diesel tank and 30 for a steel tank. Replacing a tank is only a requirement when the existing tank is damaged, warped or beyond repair. It is best to consult the person who services and maintains your equipment for advice on this.

In order to comply with oil storage regulations in the UK, large quantities of red diesel need to be stored in a bunded diesel tank. The bunded diesel tank range are available in both plastic and steel options, with or without dispensing equipment and in varying quantities up to 100,000 Litres.

About Diesel Tanks

Available in capacities from 250 litres to 15,000 litres, our range includes bunded diesel tanks, transportable units and static fuel storage systems built for durability and long-term performance.

Whether you need fuel storage for a farm, fleet yard, construction site or standby generator installation, we supply solutions engineered for reliability and regulatory compliance.

Why Choose a Bunded Diesel Tank?

Bunded diesel tanks feature a tank-within-a-tank construction, providing secondary containment in the event of a leak. The inner tank stores the fuel, while the outer layer captures spills and helps prevent environmental contamination.

This design supports compliance with UK oil storage regulations and is widely recognised as one of the safest methods for storing diesel above ground.

Our Diesel Tank Range Includes:

  • Bunded Diesel Tanks – Double-skinned tanks for secure bulk fuel storage
  • Transportable Diesel Tanks – Portable units with integrated dispensing systems
  • Diesel Fuel Bowsers – Site and yard refuelling solutions
  • Generator Feed Tanks – Dedicated fuel supply systems for backup power

All fuel storage systems in this category are bunded as standard, providing additional protection and peace of mind.

If you are unsure which diesel tank best suits your application, our team is happy to help specify the right solution.
